True Stories of Recovery

  • Arzell

"There is a God. If He can change me, He can change anybody.”

  • Nellie

“I don't want to forget the past, but I don’t want to live in it.”

  • James

    “When I came in here, I wasn’t a whole person. I was a shell of a person.”

  • Paul

“I learned more in my 11 months at The Salvation Army than I learned in 42 years of life.”

In 1939 The Salvation Army established the first Harbor Light in the world here in Detroit. That was the beginning of what would evolve into the largest drug rehabilitation in the State of Michigan which is now called The Eastern Michigan Salvation Army Harbor Light System. There are three primary campus locations; Detroit, Macomb County, and Monroe with a total bed capacity of 750. The Harbor Light System is also the home of the Bed and Bread Club which serves more than 1.7 million meals annually. The goal of The Salvation Army Harbor Light System for our clients is the eradication of hunger, homelessness and addiction from their lives. Harbor Light services are provided every day of the year.
